I normally use Microsoft PowerPoint integrated with Ovation, but I have used OpenOffice's Impress before now as well. You don't get the integration button and interaction, but I've had no issues saving the file as a powerpoint version and then importing it into Ovation.

Just wondering whether anyone else uses it, and if you've found any issues.

Or indeed if there are any other powerpoint alternatives which people use.

I've never heard of OpenOffice Impress before, and do use Powerpoint, how would you rate or compare one against the other?  What are the advantages to using OpenOffice?

It's an office suite that will run on many Operating Systems like Windows, MAC, Linux, etc.  And it's free!

There's really only one thing which sets openoffice apart from microsoft office, and that is it's FREE!!!!

But openoffice does a great great job, and is all open source. It provides quite a high level of compatibility with Microsoft Office, being able to both open and save into Office format.

Obviously that works wonders then with third party programs like Ovation. Because you can export from Impress to a .ppt file, Ovation doesn't seem to know any different!

It would be great if you could integrate Ovation with Impress like we can with PowerPoint but I guess that would be quite a big development step.

Version 2.3 released today...

One feature I'd love to see, the ability to batch export an entire presentation to image files as PP does. As most of you may already know, exporting the slides from PP as .jpg or .png allows them to be used in VC or any other NLE. Currently, in O.O., you can export one slide at a time to any type of image file you want, but it becomes rather tedious if you have 25 + slides.

With PP you can just drag and drop the entire presentation into VCS and it converts the whole lot into usable slides. Does this feature not work with the Open Office version?
