Hello everyone!

I need to know if Serious Magic products like Ultra, Ultra 2, and Visual Communicator run on Windows Vista.

I have all three of these products and want to use them on a new computer that has Vista already installed on it.

Can this be done?  Is there a workaround?

Thanks.

There are several posts regarding Vista and Ultra. I personally have been using Ultra 2 on vista shortly after Vista was introduced. There are several posts  for this. Just do a search on this forum for the keyword Vista.

Here is one http://www.seriousmagicians.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,26/topic,264.0/ link

Good Luck,

Michael, thanks.  But I can't seem to even get my Ultra to install on my Vista computer.  When I go to install it, it starts with initial the 'Thank you for your purchase' screen after clicking on the Setup file, but then says "it has to reboot in order for changes to take place" when I haven't done anything yet.

I went along with the process a few times and rebooted it, but I still can't install it.

By the way, while this is going on, it also says that it has to install DirectX 9.0, but then says a more advanced version is already on the computer.

Any ideas why this rebooting message keeps coming up?

Thanks.

Here is an Adobe reference to the Direct X issue and resolution. Download the file.

Ultra 1 continually attempts to install DirectX

Issue

When you attempt to install Ultra 1, you are prompted continually to install DirectX 9.0b.
Reason

Recently, Microsoft updated an application called DirectX version 9.0c. The Serious Magic software you purchased was built to run with DirectX 9.0b, and the installer has difficulty recognizing some of the changes in the newer version.
Solution

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Download the Ultra 1 Setup patch.

   1. Download and unzip the following file to your desktop: http://www.adobe.com/support/ultra/ts/documents/kb400841/kb400841_setup.zip
   2. Place your ULTRA or Ultra Key install DVD in your DVD-ROM drive.
   3. If the auto-run starts the installation, select Cancel.
   4. With the DVD in the drive, run the new Setup.exe file that you extracted to the desktop. When the installation is finished, you can delete the Setup.exe file from the desktop.

Solution 2: Manually patch the Ultra 1 installation.

Make sure that your Ultra software disc is in the appropriate drive. Make sure to cancel if the auto-run starts by itself.

   1. From the Desktop, select Start > Run.
   2. If your DVD is labeled ULTRA, then type the following in the Open text box:
      Msiexec /I D:\ULTRA.msi SMSETUP=1

If your DVD is labeled Ultra Key, type the following in the Open text box:
      Msiexec /I D:\UKInst.msi SMSETUP=1

Note: Substitute the drive letter of your DVD-ROM drive, if your DVD-ROM drive letter is not D.
   3. Click OK The installation process will begin. When installation is complete, continue to the next step.
   4. Navigate to the drive on which you installed ULTRA and go to Program Files\Serious Magic\ULTRA(or Ultra Key)\Bin\Inst.
   5. Locate the file named: ULTRABin.msi and double-click this file; the installation process will complete.

Thanks Michael!  I will try this today.  Will this then allow me to correct the reboot issue as well so Ultra will intall on my Vista computer?
