Until recently, Ultra CS3 was running just fine on my Windows Vista machine. Now, it crashes with an "Adobe Ultra.exe has stopped working" message, when it reaches the "initializing main tabs" portion of starting up.

According to the problem details, the "Fault Module Name" seems to be sonic75m2ve.ax , and its "Fault Module Version" is 7.4.0.32445 .

I recently installed Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate, which includes Sonicfire Pro 4. Could that be causing the problem? Anyone else suffering from this?

Any way of dealing with it, without uninstalling one or the other?

Adobe's support site was of no help.

First things first. .ax files are used by various video playback programs to process video data streams; provides decoding and encoding capabilities, file parsing, audio and video de-multiplexing, video decompression, and rendering of video files; may also be used in the video recording and editing process.

Most likely installing a competing program has taken precedence over the one used by Ultra and Adobe.

There are two things I would try. The first is to reinstall Ultra and when asked if I wanted to install or repair choose to repair. You may also go to 'Control Panel' and choose the 'Programs and Features' and try repairing Ultra from there. If this is not effective you may need to reinstall Ultra from scratch.

Hope this helps a little,  Grin

I already tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling Ultra. That did not help.

I did come up with one temporary fix. I found the file under "Program Files\Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate\VideoCore 11\Filters". I renamed it to xsonic75m2ve.ax (with an "x" in front).
Now, when Ultra starts up, Roxio tries to repair the installation. When I cancel that attempt, Ultra's start-up completes successfully.

Of course, that leaves Roxio crippled, so I have to rename the file back, to use Roxio.

I supposed uninstalling Roxio from this machine, and installing it on another would provide a better solution.

However, what if someone wants both on the same machine? How can Ultra be set up to ignore that particular filter?

Perhaps someone can help me edit Ultra's CodecExcludeList.xml properly? I tried to do it, myself, by searching for the file in the registry, and noting its UIDs, and adding them to the XML file, but that did not help. Perhaps I did it wrong.
